Valerie Long
Valerie Long is the deputy director of Altarum’s Center for Food and Nutrition. She possesses more than 30 years of hands-on leadership in the development of nutrition education project interventions and evaluations at the state level, in particular nutrition interventions targeted to SNAP. Ms. Long is an Extension Professor Emeritus at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and taught Community Nutrition for the UNH Animal and Nutritional Sciences Department. Currently, she is the Project Manager for the Models of SNAP-Ed Wave II demonstration projects providing oversight of the independent evaluation of the Iowa Nutrition Network, the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and Michigan State University Extension projects. She also was the lead for the Models of SNAP-Ed Wave I Pennsylvania State University demonstration project study. Prior to joining Altarum, Ms. Long directed the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and the state SNAP-Ed program through the UNH Cooperative Extension. In her work with EFNEP and SNAP-Ed, she provided overall leadership for program administration, development of nutrition interventions and educational methodologies, staff training, assessment of participant dietary analysis, and the development of social marketing campaigns.
