Senior Lean Health Care Coach, Altarum Institute

Brock has been a Senior Lean Six Sigma coach at Altarum Institute since 2008. He has worked with a variety of different hospitals and systems, from large academic medical centers to small critical access hospitals. He has broad experience in healthcare, facilitating events in all hospital departments.

Prior to his position at Altarum, he was one of first three Industrial Engineers at Denver Health who trained and mentored the initial class of “Lean Black-Belts,” helped create the foundational structure for the Lean program, and facilitated the initial Value Stream Kaizen Events throughout the hospital system. The results of these initial efforts and successes have been demonstrated savings of $88 million in operational expenses and Denver Health becoming the first Healthcare Delivery organization to win the Shingo prize.

Brock has deployed Lean successfully at a variety of different healthcare facilities, including level-1 trauma centers, safety-net hospitals, clinics, community and regional hospital systems. In addition, he has been an instructor for the University of Michigan Practicum in Healthcare Systems Engineering Senior Design Course.

Prior to his work in healthcare, Brock worked as a Process Assurance Engineer for the Space Shuttle Program at the Kennedy Space Center, a management consultant for the automotive service parts industry, and as a Technical Assistant at Car & Driver magazine.
